Meritxell Cutrona is a senior cell biologist with expertise in the study of membrane and nanoparticle trafficking in cells and spheroids, advanced automated microscopy, high-content analysis and drug phenotypic screening in 3D cellular systems.

Over her postdoctoral research she has contributed to decipher COPII-independent protein ER export in human cells by targeting the expression of human Sar1 GTPase paralogs, or to interrogate nanoparticle uptake and trafficking in spheroids by RNAi‐based screening of Rab GTPases through the specific design and application of a high-resolution 3D-HCS/HCA platform.

Meritxell is currently appointed as Staff Scientist in HTB-Chemical Biology & Therapeutics Dept. at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in USA, where her primary focus is to develop and apply cutting-edge quantitative imaging technologies to dissect complex phenotypes in patient-derived tumor organoids.

She is investigating how to leverage cell-to-cell phenotypic profiling in organoids in order to gain insight on the effects of drug or genetic perturbagens. The ultimate goal of her research is to impulse predictive biology and personalised medicine.
